Prepare distinguished, scientifically-oriented, professional and highly qualified earth/ocean / marine scientists to meet the job requirements in the field of marine sciences/geology and to play leading roles in industry, research, teaching and public services
Program Goals
The aims of the marine geology program include:
- Provides students with knowledge and skills to examine the complex natural processes that generated and shaped ocean basins, their evolution through time such as tectonics, climate change and natural and anthropogenic hazards.
- Develops the students’ awareness of the role of marine geology in contemporary applications, together with the skills of logical thought and a flexibility of mind that will help them continue their personal development throughout their subsequent career.
- Emphasizes on the fundamentals of the subject, whilst offering students a wide range of final year options that are intended to stimulate the versatility, knowledge and skills that employers look for in a marine geology graduates.
- Enhances skills that are essential to address global climate changes, natural and anthropogenic impact on marine environments and understand the marine mineral resources and their distribution.
- Improve students’ critical awareness of the natural world and the role of their chosen discipline in understanding and maintaining that world.
- Provide students with the skills required to become independent lifelong learners able to adapt positively to the rapidly changing workplace.
